Goals and characteristics:

The fellowship is academically oriented with an emphasis on teaching and research, but it also has a large clinical base from which the fellow can gain practical experience in the conservative and operative care of athletes. The fellow will assist in surgery for private patients concentrating on sports medicine and shoulder surgery and teaching at the LAC+USC Medical Center Sports Service. The fellow also participates in the care of the undergraduate athletes at the University of Southern California, to include training room experience and on the field/court care. A basic science research project is required during the year-long fellowship. A research lab is available on the campus. The fellow is responsible for organizing weekly journal club and sports medicine conferences with assistance from orthopaedic residents. Successful completion of an orthopaedic residency program and a California State medical license are required. We participate in the AOSSM match program.
